[ No hello. No introduction to who they were talking about. Raina knows that March knows. ]

He did? [In that same pleased tone one might expect if Raina had said he'd proposed; oh yes, March is tickled and ever so ready for the next step in this glorious, wonderful process.] Congratulations! Have you selected a victim?

[ WELL. He hasn't. Proposed. Yet. Even knowing she might die and not come back!!! ]

That's actually something I was hoping we could do together. You know Maurtia Falls far better than I do. And I imagine, you know the darker souls who could be manipulated into attempting a murder. I think we need to prime Frederick to react without hesitation, and for that, the stakes need to be real. My attacker should be genuinely attacking me. I have no doubt then that Frederick will react in exactly the way we want him to.

Mm, yes. I can think of a few volatile souls. [Sounds like he's in love, Lord.] If you believe he will strike truly without having a go before, then I will take you at your word. Do you have any preference in your attacker?

I think he will act in the heat of the moment. He'll be plotting and planning other ways to take care of the problem, but if the real threat comes to pass and it's only his actions that keep me alive, he will do whatever it takes.

[ Ah true love. ]

But for that, my attacker should be a man. One of the newly powered natives is preferable. We need someone that I won't easily be able to overpower, but also someone who can die permanently if it comes down to it. It might work out in our favor if he hates imPorts.

Hates imPorts. [Chewing over the requirements, that stretch of silence is heavy with gears turning for the greater evil.] Your beloved doesn't have a resistance to fire, does he? I may have the perfect individual for our needs if darling Frederick is still susceptible to flame.

[ Of all Raina's future seeing abilities, she has not seen the fate that befalls Frederick due to fire. Therefore, this seems to be of no real consequence to her. ]

He does not. He has no resistance to any abilities.

[ UNFORTUNATELY. Given how often he's the target of them! ]

There is one man in this city who's been banned from several hotels. He has a horrible habit of setting the laundry on fire, you see. He's said he couldn't control it, no one had given him any briefing on how to control it, none of this was his fault. He was the talk of all of us in the hospitality industry. So when he came here, I had hopes he sought help. This was not the case. He was quite mad, and a little drunk, and he tried very hard to set myself and all the furniture in the lobby on fire. His skills aren't quite skilled yet. He managed to singe my jacket and a cushion and see himself shown out.

[Normally March might seek that guy out for tutelage in the art of being a shit; here, he sees a much better use for him. RIP, tiny dragon.]

He can't be too difficult to find, just a few calls away.

Do you happen to have an image of him? Security camera footage or anything, really. I promised Frederick I would show him what my attacker looks like. I have a device that allows thoughts to be seen on screen, you see. A gift from the departed and much improved Tony Stark. But I can put off actually doing it until you can arrange for me to see this guy.

We do have cameras! It's customary. Legalities, you know. Rules and regulations there for the good of the people. Or so they say. I'll go through what we have and send you along any and all of him I can find. How do you like that?

[She isn't the only one smirking; it's easy to do things away from the cameras. Easier still to not even show up on them unless he really wants to. Wanna fuck with someone's head? Just watch ghost murder palace security footage.

That sounds perfect. I knew I could count on you. With any luck, we'll see Frederick flourish and blossom before our very eyes. Because when he does kill, [ not IF but WHEN ] he will need someone there to comfort him through it. Someone to assure him that he doesn't need to worry about moralities and ethics. Someone to convince him to do it again...

[Raina is speaking his language, and in her voice it sends jolts through him that are borderline arousing. This is still business but. Sounds quite like business he's also in love with. Whoops!]

Indeed he will. He'll have that from both you and I and more. Takes a village! [Some of that audible heart eyes diminishes.] Have you met Sally? The clever girl who favors animal print? She and I make a rather good team assuring folks with potential, if I do say so myself. And encouraging them to do exactly what it is they were meant to. It's dangerous, you know, keeping all that potential inside instead of sharing it. Would be for his best to let it out. We know that well.

[ Raina had not acquainted herself with the woman. She was too busy being judgy over her tacky animal print and sad, sad appearance. But....Raina supposes if she could help. ]

If you vouch for her, then I trust your opinion. And Frederick certainly could use a bit of help coming out of his shell. He does have a few more positive influences. Ones we will need to keep in mind as they could potentially undo the good we've done for him.

Don't you worry, dear. If ever your Frederick seems to be swaying, you send him here. We will fix him right up. Treat him like one of our own. You are welcome as well, of course. Always welcome. The more black hearts within these walls the better, I say.
